CHIANTI MONTESPERTOLI, Fattorie Parri, Tuscany, Italy
2023 | 100% Sangiovese
The Chianti Montespertoli from Fattorie Parri is a medium-bodied, terroir-driven expression of Sangiovese. Crafted from hand-picked grapes and fermented for 10 to 15 days in stainless steel tanks, this wine is focused entirely on classic varietal fruit characteristics. It delivers a fresh, vibrant palate balanced by fine tannins and lively acidity, highlighting the typical red cherry and herbal notes inherent to the region. It pairs efficiently with grilled meats, tomato-based pasta dishes, and semi-hard cheeses.
The historic estate spans 180 hectares on the ancient Via Volterrana, with 60 hectares dedicated to vineyards alongside olive groves and cultivated arable land. Founded in 1950 by Novello Parri with the acquisition of Tenuta Corfecciano, the family-run winery grew over the subsequent decades to incorporate the Ribaldaccio, Il Monte, and Il Urbana estates. Today, daily management is led by Luigi Parri alongside his nephew Andrea and niece Paola Cantini, with oenologist Giorgio Tarzariol directing production since 1972 to focus on traditional, minimal-intervention winemaking.
Chianti Montespertoli is a distinct sub-denomination established within the broader Chianti DOCG framework. Located southwest of Florence, the Montespertoli hills feature unique microclimates and specific clay-limestone soils that yield highly aromatic, early-accessible wines. Unlike the broader regional classifications, this sub-zone enforces strict yield limits and specific geographic boundaries, making it highly valued by enthusiasts for its structural clarity, reliable regional authenticity, and outstanding everyday food versatility.
