Mulderbosch Sauvignon Blanc, Stellenbosch, South Africa
2025 | 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Mulderbosch Sauvignon Blanc has consistently been held in the highest esteem by wine critics across the globe since its maiden vintage in 1992. It has cemented itself as a benchmark for New World Sauvignon Blanc and is subsequently celebrated for its longevity, finesse and true varietal expression.

Nose: A hallmark Sauvignon Blanc vintage expressing the full aromatic spectrum the variety can offer. The wine opens with pristine clarity: gooseberry, blackcurrant, fresh lime zest, and white peach. Followed by layers of tropical melon, guava, papaya, and lifted fynbos herbal tones. Subtle graphite-mineral nuances echo the Stellenbosch terroir. Giving the bouquet remarkable depth, purity, and authenticity. Every swirl reveals another facet—bright, floral, tropical, and mineral—capturing what we believe to be a quintessential Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc profile.

Palate: A vibrant and powerful flavour expression. The palate weaves together crunchy acidity, ripe tropical fruits, and a precise mineral undertone. Notes of citrus blossom, gooseberry, ripe melon, and guava interplay with herbal freshness and a fine saline thread, creating exceptional balance. The texture is layered and refined, supported by lees-aged components, providing a gentle creaminess beneath the energetic fruit. This vintage shows remarkable structure—more poised, more complete—and is well equipped to evolve gracefully over time. Developing further complexity while maintaining its striking purity.

The more you delve into this indulgent wine, the more it gives. In true Mulderbosch style, they strive to provide the ultimate experience with each bottle of their finely crafted wines.

Mulderbosch's estate fruit is grown in soils that vary from Malmesbury shale and Table Mountain sandstone to sandy duplex and decomposed granite. The diverse topography includes hills, slopes and valleys. Apart from their bush-vine Chenin Blanc which is left to grow as is, they apply vertical shoot positioning trellising to maximise fruit exposure to the morning sun. Vine rows face south/south-east, to derive the benefit from shade later in the day, and what becomes a relatively cool ambient temperature. Afternoon sea breezes from False Bay, less than 14 km away, also bring down temperatures to make for slow ripening, good acids and richer, more expressive flavours in the grapes.

Additionally, Mulderbosch sources fruit from a small but carefully selected group of highly talented wine growers who follow the same approach to viticulture that they do. Like them, they believe in returning their vineyards to balance naturally and letting nature do most of the work in yielding healthy fruit with flavours that reflect their origin.

Mulderbosch's relationships with their supplier growers go back many years. Not only do they share Mulderbosch's wine-growing principles, but they are as invested in producing top-quality grapes as is Mulderbosch. So committed are they that whenever they can, they prefer to deliver the fruit to the winery in person, rather than delegating the job to someone down the line!

Mulderbosch and their supplier growers are IPW and WIETA-accredited and subscribe to the same eco- and socially-sustainable codes of practices.
