Mountain Wines:
From Fumane, nestled in the center of the Valpolicella Classico hills, a winding road climbs through the vineyards. At Turn 10, you'll find the turnoff to the highest winery in the area, perched above the surrounding valleys. The views here are unforgettable. On a clear day, both Verona and Lake Garda appear like sparkling gems beyond the rolling vines.
This is Accordini, a family-run winery now led by the fourth generation. Their wine-making follows a sustainable and organic philosophy, honouring the land and the traditions passed down through the generations.
Most of Accordini's 25 hectares of vineyards sit at the highest region of the Valpolicella Classico district. Due to the high altitude mountain soil quality and climate, the wines have characteristics which are unique and unmistakable.
Valpolicella's mountain wines come from high-altitude vineyards tucked into the foothills of the Lessini Mountains and the dramatic southern edge of the Alps north of Verona, Italy. Here, the grapes find mainly limestone and skeletal soil which cause lower yields but of improved quality. The ripening of the grapes is influenced by the milder mountain climate, compared to the plains, and the wider temperature fluctuations. These positively impact the grapes' colorants and aromatic substances, and spicy notes, which makes for unique and unmistakable wines.
